Description

September 11, 2001. It is 8:45 am. In one minute, the clocks will reset to Minute zero. Not just in New York, but the whole world’s memory clock will.

In one minute, many voices will be instilled at 1,2 WTC New York, NY 10048. They will forever remain there to remind us of what’s about to happen and tell their stories for the generations to come.

During the catastrophic events of 9-11, many of the employees/visitors who were inside the towers made their last phone calls to their loved ones.

The Fallen Voices of 9-11 is an attempt to remind us of what we are capable of doing in our darkest moments and to create an atmosphere of silence in which imagination, spiritual reflection, and introspection can be evoked. Here, what we can’t see is real,  and what we can hear is deafening.

102 Microcassette tapes casted in concrete are hung from the void of infinite darkness to tell the story of those who fought for 102 minutes before the towers fell.

The installation also demonstrates the complexity of remembering 9/11 as a moment in which the equilibrium of the metaphorical and sacred meaning of the city and the dweller reshaped itself.

The city and the man, constantly repositioning and reorienting themselves towards each other in history, but the stories remain to echo from generation to generation. The void tapes embody the very absence of those who lost their life tragically during the 911 attacks. The brittle microcassettes are a testament to the lives of the voices that have lived and the hopes beneath their last words.  Their voices will forever echo from within the fallen towers through to the world.
