… 9/11 Memorial & Museum Honors Veterans with Salute to Service Tribute In recognition of Veterans Day, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum will offer special admission and host a series of events during a five-day Salute to Service . Throughout the tribute, all veterans, along with active and retired members of the U.S. military, will receive free admission to visit the 9/11 Memorial Museum. Members of the U.S. military will also receive half price Museum tickets for up to two family members. Salute to Service will begin on Wednesday, Nov. 9, with representatives from the FDNY, NYPD and PAPD placing American flags on the 9/11 Memorial in the names of fallen first responders who were also veterans. Here, a few of our incredible Museum volunteers — Mary … me in September 2014 [four months after the Museum opened] and asked me to take them to the In Memoriam exhibit. They had no interest in seeing anything else, just “the faces.” I escorted them down and they asked me to stay with them. They were there to pay respects to the fallen FDNY captain who had stopped their son — a probie at the time — from entering the [Towers] where the rest of his unit was headed. They wept while watching the captain’s tribute, and, clinging closely together, repeated over and over, “We are so lucky.” They hugged me and thanked me.
