9/11 Memorial President and CEO Joe Daniels directs planning, construction, development and operations for the 9/11 Memorial. Through his work, he is honored to meet many of the families, friends, and colleagues of the nearly 3,000 victims. Daniels will share his personal experiences at the memorial, and much more, in the Thank You for Visiting series on the MEMO blog.
Today, at the 9/11 Memorial, I was honored to stand with Mayor Michael Bloomberg, former Mayor David Dinkins, and leaders of the Port Authority, to observe a moment of silence at 12:18 p.m. and listen to the victims' names read aloud. I joined family members, including Michael Macko and Stephen Knapp, survivors, and staff placing white roses by the names, that are now forever etched in bronze around the Memorial’s North Pool.
As you go about your lives today, please take a moment with me to remember those six individuals who were simply doing the same 20 years ago and were taken too soon: John DiGiovanni, Robert Kirkpatrick, Stephen A. Knapp, William Macko, Wilfredo Mercado, and Monica Rodriguez Smith, who was pregnant when she died.
On this day, please join me in sharing your thoughts and prayers with the victims' families and the survivors of the 1993 attack.
Thank you for visiting.
