Artist's Statement
When my family first moved to Lower Manhattan in the late 1980s, the Twin Towers were the reference point my father gave me to find my way home.
I stayed in Manhattan and lived on the Upper West Side on September 11, 2001. That day, with the towers gone, I felt lost.
A month later, my partner and I went to the Financial District to witness what had happened. I picked up a piece of plastic that looked like the twisted steel we saw. I put that fragment into a collage. I wanted to capture the emptiness. The eeriness in the city and the heaviness in the air.
I will never forget.
