The view–gorgeous.  The pizza—divine.  Take a moment and stop by the Merchants River House. If you are looking for casual ambiance, American fare, and a view you can show off to your visiting mother-in-law, Merchants River House is your place. Formerly known as Steamers Landing, the Merchants River House caters to a crowd less interested in endless seafood and more interested in making their dollar go the extra mile.  The prices have dropped, but the quality remains, the Downtown Express reports.

We’d like to thank Merchants Hospitality, Merchants River House, and the entire family of Merchant restaurants for joining Signs of Support, rallying around a cause so vital to New York and the nation. Join us in recognizing Merchants Hospitality as an avid supporter of the National September 11 Memorial & Museum.

Merchants River House is open Monday to Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.,  and from 11:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on weekends.

Bubby's Pie Company in Tribeca in September spotlight for 'SOS' funding effort

Bubby's Pie Company in Tribeca in September spotlight for 'SOS' funding effort

Nestled on the corner of Hudson and North Moore streets, Bubby’s Pie Company is nearing a major milestone.  On Thanksgiving, the restaurant will celebrate 20 years of serving American family heirloom recipes to Tribeca residents and businesses. For restaurant owner Ron Silver, this feat is particularly remarkable because the business has endured despite the impact 9/11 had on downtown businesses.

After 9/11, low profits marked business ledgers as many downtown restaurant-goers were displaced from their homes.  Silver reopened Bubby’s days after the attacks on September 14, 2001.  He recalled the modest menu his restaurant offered  in the first few days after reopening - coffee and pancakes, free of charge.  He also remembers the outpouring of support from the community, manifested in boxes piled on sidewalks surrounding the restaurant.  The boxes contained shoes, clothes and other items to aid recovery workers at ground zero.

This city and the nation recognized the wealth of support that swarmed the World Trade Center in the days and weeks following 9/11. Today we are just 347 days away from opening the 9/11 Memorial at the World Trade Center site.  We are grateful to Bubby’s for helping us rebuild at ground zero and to dedicate a national tribute to the nearly 3,000 victims of the terrorist attacks on the tenth anniversary.

Bubby’s recognition for their support is fitting. The restaurant is in a neighborhood that is home to the Tribeca Film Festival, which was created to help revitalize  the lower Manhattan community. The well-known festival was founded by 9/11 Memorial board directors Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal, who are also co-chairs of the Signs of Support program.  Join the 9/11 Memorial in thanking Bubby’s for their support.

The National September 11 Memorial & Museum was joined today by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro, 9/11 Memorial President Joe Daniels and members of the business community who gathered in Tribeca to encourage businesses to take part in the Signs of Support initiative.

Signs of Support is a program welcoming businesses to publicly show their support by proudly displaying a special decal on their front doors or windows. The decal is a shining symbol of the continued rebuilding of lower Manhattan that was largely spurred by the business community after 9/11. More than 2,500 decals have been sent out for display at businesses citywide.

Update: Representatives of participating businesses joined Mayor Bloomberg, De Niro and Daniels outside Locanda Verde restaurant, 377 Greenwich St.  Century 21 was represented by Jim Copland and Heather Feinmel, Lenny's Bagels by Curt Huegel and Johnny Heil, and AT&T by John Jefferson. Here's how NY1 covered the story.  DNAinfo.com also posted a series of pictures online.

The Signs of Support program is co-chaired by De Niro and film producer Jane Rosenthal, both longtime 9/11 Memorial board members.  Together with Craig Hatkoff, De Niro and Rosenthal co-founded the Tribeca Film Festival in 2002 to help rebuild Lower Manhattan.  Mayor Bloomberg, who helped pushed progress of the 9/11 Memorial forward, is chairman of the 9/11 Memorial.

From retail and restaurants to banking and communication services, businesses from across the city can pledge their support in helping to develop, build and sustain the 9/11 Memorial, a national tribute to the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives on Sept. 11.

To show gratitude for the donation, businesses participating in the program are featured on the memorial’s website and in the business supporters’ directory at the 9/11 Memorial Preview Site, 20 Vesey St.

"You looking at me?"

Maybe Academy Award-winning actor Robert De Niro, who delivered that classic line decades ago, would now proudly say: "Hey, take a look at this."  De Niro and leading film producer Jane Rosenthal, who are board members on the foundation building the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, are asking local businesses to support the project taking shape at the World Trade Center site.

De Niro and Rosenthal have sent letters asking businesses - large and small - to take part in  Signs of Support, an effort designed to help build and sustain the 9/11 Memorial.

DNAinfo.com's Josh Williams reported a story on this grassroots program.

Participating business can publicly show support by displaying a special decal on front doors or windows.  In return, those businesses will be featured on the memorial and museum’s web site and in a business supporters’ directory at the 9/11 Memorial Preview Site at 20 Vesey St.

So join other participating businesses like Lenny's Group & Bubby's Pie Co. and find out today how your business can show Signs of Support. Don’t own a business. That’s OK. The city's official marketing and tourism organization sent to its members the support letter co-written by De Niro and Rosenthal.

Join other businesses participating in a grassroots effort designed to help build and sustain the National September 11 Memorial & Museum.  The initiative is called Signs of Support, co-chaired by acclaimed actor Robert De Nero and leading film producer Jane Rosenthal, who are board members on the  memorial and museum's foundation.  Businesses that opt to support the construction of the Memorial & Museum by participating in the Signs of Support program can publicly show their support by displaying a special decal on their front doors or windows like this one shown above.

To show our gratitude, businesses participating in the program will be featured on the memorial and museum's web site and in a business supporters' directory at the 9/11 Memorial Preview Site, 20 Vesey St.  The Preview Site has had more than 500,000 visitors.

Immediately after the attacks the lower Manhattan business community came together to assist in the recovery efforts - restaurants nourished first responders and stores converted commercial space into places for workers to rest. In the days, weeks and months after the 2001 attacks, businesses operating in an anemic economy eventually began to regain a financial foothold and became key components to rebuilding downtown.  The "Forever Changed. Forever Connected" slogan reinforces the connection local businesses developed within the community through the downtown rebuilding effort.

So join other businesses today, and find out how you can show your sign of support.  Don't own a business, that's OK. Click here to find out about others ways you can support the 9/11 Memorial.
